A Historic Decade (2010-2019)
The 2010s were a decade of highs and lows for Real Madrid Football Club. After a period of relative underachievement in the 2000s, the club returned to its winning ways in the 2010s, winning an impressive four Champions League titles and two La Liga titles. In 2013, Real Madrid won its record-tying 10th European Cup/Champions League title, defeating Atletico Madrid in a dramatic final. The following year, the club won its first La Liga title in four years, finishing three points ahead of Barcelona. In 2016, Real Madrid won its 11th Champions League title, defeating Atletico Madrid in a penalty shootout. Despite these successes, the club faced criticism for its financial dealings and the departure of several high-profile players, and struggled to replicate its earlier successes in the latter half of the decade.
